BorderLabs CE: Introduction the project

Transkript for a more integrated central Europe. In central Europe, border density is among the highest in the world. Life near a border follows its own logic. Public services, mobility, and business operate under unique conditions. triking contrasts with the rest of the country all shaped by the borders. The more the borders, the more the barriers. And many of us might still remember the age of the iron curtain quickly dividing people from people, cities from cities. Overcoming borders starts with simple steps. But none of them are easy. First, neighbors need to start talking to see what connects them and what keeps them apart. Then those first connections have to grow through citizens, local institutions, and shared plans that last. And finally, the hardest part, breaking down the invisible walls, the legal, the bureaucratic, and the mental ones. Our project, the Border Labs CE project, addresses all these three types of problems. All of our pilot partners would like to test some solutions which can respond to these challenges generated by the borders. For instance, our partners from the trilateral region between Germany, Poland and Czecha will develop a methodology for integrated crossborder planning. EGTC go is focusing on slow tourism in a crossborder context which is also connected to planning. The double cities of Frankfurt order and Slubice from the German Polish border are testing methods for involving the local citizens in future planning in a double city context. And upper Austria is focusing on the elimination of crossborder legal barriers with Bavaria and with Czechia. And equally the Instagranum EGTC would like to eliminate the legal obstacles against crossborder retail of local products and these tested solutions will be capitalized through the multimedia learning platform. And these platforms should enable the local and regional stakeholders within the programming area to develop flourishing integrated crossborder regions where citizens canparticipate in the future vision development and planning. We expect that the European Union will be enlarged with Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans countries in the upcoming years. And this new integration process will valorize the central European space. And they would like to propose to develop a new spatial vision for Europe, a new European spatial development perspective. And this vision should give a special emphasis to the role that central Europe can play. These recommendations will be summarized in the charter which should envisage a new central European reality where borders matter much less than today.
